The Baby’s Ticker is Ticking Just Fine
The Baby’s Ticker is Ticking Just Fine

Meredith and I went to her OBGYN today for her second measure and listen, which, fairly self-explanatorily, is when they measure her belly and listen to the baby’s heartbeat. I didn’t make it to the last one because Meredith felt it wasn’t that interesting to just listen to the heartbeat, but I informed her that we had millions upon millions of loyal TeamMiltonFrank readers who would probably find such a thing interesting. So, in the interest of you fans, I tagged along and recorded the fine, funky beats of our soon-to-arrive son.
The doctor said everything sounded just fine. His heartbeat was clicking along between about 130 and 140 beats per minute, which is exactly what they want to hear. And, if you listen carefully, you can kind of hear the rate escalate toward the end of the recording, which the doctor says is good because it illustrates a variable heart rate, which is something else they want.
The recording quality isn’t that great because I was just holding my laptop next to the speaker the doctor was holding. Another factor is that the sound coming out of that thing in the first place wasn’t so great, which I suspect has something to do with the fact that the device looked like something they might have used in the 40’s (see picture at right).
Anyway, it is still cool to hear the little guy pumping away. Click on the little arrow under the photo of Meredith above, and enjoy.
