After I had the built-in removed and the walls repaired, it became much simpler, but just as time consuming. Taping and priming took some time because the walls were a pretty strong blue beforehand, which required two full coats of primer. One point of note was that Meredith and I chose to use an environmentally friendly kind of paint which has no VOC’s (I don’t know what VOC stands for, but apparently they are bad and we’re happy to not have them in our house). It is really neat because even while we were painting the room, there was absolutely no paint smell whatsoever. And with a gestating infant in the house right now, the fewer fumes we have around the better.
But, now that everything is almost said and done (I still need to patch and paint the floorboard that was previously built inside the cabinet), we are pretty happy with it.
